Vail Vision August 31, 2005

What a great time to be part of Christ Lutheran vail . Yes, that is the name that was chosen by popular vote on Sunday night. All of the names were great, but Christ Lutheran Vail was the top choice. Those I talked to said they liked the name because it answered the question, who? what? and where? Now we have answered those questions, there is still one more, the question of why? What is the mission statement of Christ Lutheran Vail? If you would like to be involved in developing a mission statement, please contact me.

Things are moving full-steam ahead as we begin planning for upcoming events. If you are in charge of a ministry area, I would like to meet with you over the next few weeks. Email, or call me, and we can set up a meeting. There is much to prepare for worship in November.

Many of you are hosting a fund-raising dinner or will participate in a fund-raising dinner in September and October. I am extremely grateful to you and to Thrivent for Lutherans (www.thrivent.com) for your support. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to costs to begin worship in Cienega High School Auditorium.

As we have settled in to Vail, many of you have asked how my family is doing. They are all doing very well. Many, many thanks to all of you who have gone out of your way to make us feel at home. God has truly blessed my family with a larger family at Fountain of Life and the Vail Mission.

In our weekly staff Bible study, we are studying the book of Joshua. In our last lesson, we studied the story of Rehab, the harlot, who was saved by God when the Israelites conquered Jericho. (Joshua 2). She became an Israelite and was an ancestor of Christ! If God can save Rahab and use her for His greater purpose, how much more so can He use us.

That is it for now. If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns, please contact me.

The Lord Bless you and Keep you,

David Hook, Vicar

On Sunday night we finished our series on the Parables. Will you be ready when the bridegroom comes? Are you sharing oil in your lamp? We have had some great suggestions for the upcoming series: How to Pray (maybe study the petitions of the Lord's Prayer), Romans (How to be a Christian without being religious), and Evangelism (How do we invite people to our church?). Come Sunday and find out.

"In-Home Fund-Raising Dinners.. “ Many people have signed up to be host/hostesses. We are looking for just a few more. But, beginning Sunday you can sign up for the meals themselves. What a great opportunity to have good Christian fellowship. The slots will fill up quickly, so be looking for the sign-up sheet.

The Jeff Rohlwing Concert will be Sunday evening, October 30th at Cienega High School Auditorium. Think of who you can personally invite to the concert. Jeff is an amazing artist with a gift for writing and performing music. This will be an event you simply cannot miss! More details on Jeff are available on his website: www.jeffrohlwing.com I have contacted Cienega's Fellowship of Christian Students (FCS) to see if they would like to co-sponsor the concert and am waiting to hear from them.

Home Improvement IV is the name of the conference featuring Dr. Kevin Leman. I will be presenting a workshop entitled "The Dating Game.. or "The Gait from Date to Mate: Advice for teens in a sexually-charged America... Talk this up with your neighbors and invite them to this great community event. We will reserve some tickets, but the Cienega High School Auditorium can seat up to 800 “ so invite everyone.

We have almost all of the Ministry Positions filled. The two remaining positions are Nursery and High School Youth. If you know of someone I should contact, let me know. I am excited about the people who have volunteered for the positions. They appear to be a great fit for the job! If you are a ministry leader, I would like to meet with you over the next few weeks.

Larry Unger is still home recuperating from his back surgery. Cade Sandison and family are doing great. Polly got to hold Cade on Sunday and was positively beaming. What a blessing children are to their families, not only to Mom and Dad, but everyone else!
