Vail Vision November 18, 2005

God is Good! All the Time!

God just keeps on showering us with blessing after blessing. Every day I wake up excited about what He is doing at Christ Lutheran Vail.

Advent and Christmas Eve Worship Mailing “You may recall that Pastor Michaelson and I made a presentation to the Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) about a month ago. After we made our presentation, LCEF offered to pay for advertising to people in the Vail area and make them aware of our Advent worship and Christmas Eve service. The first of these mailings will be going out around Thanksgiving. This is only being mailed to a select group of people, namely those likely to attend a Christmas Eve service. We are working with both The Lutheran Hour Ministries and the Lutheran Church Extension Fund to create these mailings. Their expertise on reaching people in the community is enormous and we appreciate the assistance!

Peasall Sisters Concert “ The Grammy award winning Peasall Sisters will be in Wilcox Arizona on New Year's Eve. I am working with them to arrange a concert at Cienega High School on New Year's Day (Jan 1 at 6:00 PM). Their career took off after singing on the soundtrack for the movie, "O Brother Where Art Thou... I will keep you posted in further issues of the Vision.

Vail Church Leaders Luncheon “ I met with the Vail area church leaders on Wednesday. This was a great meeting. It is amazing to see how God is at work at so many churches in Vail. I believe that the church is instrumental in guiding a community. Kudos to the Vail School District for all the work they do in partnering with the religious leaders.

Fountain of Life “ We will find out this week how much money we will receive from the Pacific Southwest District to help fund the Vail Mission. However, even with the District support, the bulk of the operating expenses for our mission comes from Fountain of Life Lutheran Church. We are truly blessed to have such a close partnership with Fountain of Life. When I go back to seminary next year, Fountain of Life will be stepping up to the plate to make sure that the Vail Mission continues. Some of you may be anxious to "break away.. from the mother church. I encourage you to resist that temptation! We have the best of both worlds. Fountain of Life gives me a huge leeway into what we do here. Yet we have the strong financial and legal backing of Fountain of Life. Also, personally, I draw a huge amount of support and guidance from the staff at Fountain of Life.

Vail Pride Days “ Vail Pride Days is an annual event sponsored by the Vail School District to celebrate the Vail School District. Last year there were 7,000 people who came to the Pima County Fairgrounds to attend this event. We will be having a booth to celebrate our church! I am looking for volunteers to help this year. The event will be Saturday, February 11th. If you are interested, please contact me.

How to Store a Trailer “ Each Sunday we bring in the equipment that is used for the service. Our desire is to have this equipment stored during the week in a trailer at a secured facility. Unfortunately, we do not know of one in the Vail area. If you know of something that might work, please give me a call. No idea is too crazy.

Blessings on your day. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Advent Worship this year will be a sermon series entitled, "The Five Love Languages... This series is about the many ways that God shows His love to us. It is loosely based on the best-selling books by Gary Chapman on the five love languages. This advent series will begin on November 27th and continue through Christmas Eve. If you know anyone who is struggling in a relationship, it might be that they do not recognize their or other's love language. Invite them to come learn during Advent and join us for Christmas Eve.

Calendar The Schedule of Events is still as follows:
November 20 “ First Fruits Giving.
November 27 “ December 18, Advent Worship
December 24, Christmas Eve service

Christmas Eve Service. “ We will celebrate a Christmas Eve service in Cienega High School Auditorium at 7:00 PM, December 24th. We are inviting members of the community to join with us to sing in a "community choir... As you talk to your neighbors, see if any of them can sing and invite them to join with us. Details to follow in later issues of the Vision.

VBS Vacation Bible School “ Jennifer Hook has reviewed the Jerusalem Marketplace Spring VBS and it looks great! Kids will have a great time learning what it would have been like living in Jerusalem during the time of Jesus. We have set a tentative date of March 20 “ 24, 2006. This week corresponds to the spring break at all the Vail schools. If you would like to help with the VBS, either with crafts, music, shepherding, setup, or whatever, please contact Jennifer at
