Vail Vision December 22, 2005

Greetings from the Babe in Bethlehem,

I have been doing some research lately looking for clever or humorous stories about Christmas time. One thing that I have found very interesting is that there are web sites all over the internet where people can post their Christmas story. In many places, in fact in quite a few places, the stories are not humorous or clever at all. They are very sad. It's disheartening to see how this joyful time of year brings Christmas gloom to many. I am sure all of us have a story about how at Christmastime we were reminded of a broken relationship. During most of the year we can ignore that Christmas is a time for families. But when Christmas arrives, our broken relationships can remind us of how entrenched the world is with the effects of sin.

But there is one relationship that is never broken. That is our relationship with the Babe in Bethlehem. Even when all others fail, He is still there at Christmas bringing gifts of hope, joy, peace and love to our lives. And what's more, He uses us to bring these gifts to others.

If you are gloomy this season because of a broken relationship, I pray that God will make you complete. I pray that His Spirit will fill you with wisdom and courage to deal with those relationships. I pray that His Spirit fill you with so much joy that you can't help but share that with others, particularly those whom you love.

This Christmas season I am so blessed to have new friends and people to share this season with. Your kindness to our family this year is much appreciated. We are truly blessed by all of you. The Joy of the Babe at Bethlehem truly shines through you.

With Christmas Joy,

David Hook and Family

Next Steps “ One of the things that many people tell me they miss is the Sunday night Bible Study fellowship hour. We have been concentrating our efforts in November and December to getting worship off the ground. This has been a rousing success! Yet, worship is only one activity of our church. We will start adding other programs beginning at the first of the year. If you have any ideas that you would like to see implemented, or the willingness to implement them, please contact me. I see the early part of the new year concentrating on:

Small groups
Sunday Morning Adult Bible Study and Sunday School
Children's Ministries
Youth Ministries

Peasall Sisters Concert “ January 1, 6:00 PM. The Grammy award winning Peasall Sisters are coming to town. Their career took off after being in the movie, "O Brother Where Art Thou... They will perform a concert at Cienega High School on New Year's Day (Jan 1 at 6:00 PM). Jeff Rohlwing will open for them. If you can't make the concert at Cienega High School, they are also performing at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church on December 30th at 7:00 PM. We will have fliers on Sunday for you to hand out. The concert will be publicized on radio and print. This will be an event that you simply cannot miss.

Christmas Eve Worship Mailing “Another mailing is in the mail! This is publicizing our Christmas services and the upcoming Peasall Sisters concert. This has been mailed to approximately 3,000 homes in the Vail area. Thanks to the Lutheran Church Extension Fund for helping with the mailing costs. If you see people at church that you haven't met yet, introduce yourself and say "hi... Greet them with Christmas Joy!

Roadway Cleanup - The roadway in front of Cienega High School has been adopted by our church. We should clean it at least twice a year. We are planning a cleanup day for an early Saturday morning in January. If you are available and want to work off those Christmas cookies, come join us. I will post the date in a later Vail Vision.

Vail Pride Days “ This is sponsored each year by the Vail School District to showcase the schools and the district. The event will be Saturday, February 11th. We have signed up for a booth to hand out information about our Church. We need helpers. If you are available to helps staff the booth, please contact me.
