Vail Vision February 9, 2006

Water, water everywhere.

As I write this, the rain is pouring down. For more than 100 days, we have been without rain. Now, it's coming down in droves - whatever droves are. I love the smell of the desert after a good rain. It brings new life. But water doesn't just bring new life to the desert, it also brings new life to our family. On Sunday, Ruby Anette Hickie will be washed through the waters of Baptism. At the end of the service, we will proceed to the school courtyard where we will have our first Baptism. In the Bible, God promises that through Baptism that he will be Ruby's shepherd and her guide. What a joyful time.

On March 5th, we will celebrate the Lord's Supper for the first time. To prepare for this, we will conduct an all-church Bible Study on the Sacrament of the Altar. This will be held on February 26th immediately after the service. After this study, we will discuss how often we desire to provide the Lord's Supper. I encourage all of you, whether you have studied about the Lord's Supper or not, to come see what Jesus says about this awesome gift.

Christ Lutheran Vail is an outreach ministry of Fountain of Life. We are given tremendous support from them both financially and spiritually. However, gradually, we are beginning to function as our own congregation. In order to guide the spiritual formation of Christ Lutheran Vail and to create a leadership structure, Fountain of Life has appointed three men to be elders specifically for Christ Lutheran Vail. They are members of Fountain of Life's Board of Elders, but they are specifically designated to serve Christ Lutheran Vail. These men are Larry Unger, Dick Phillips, and Paul Schaefer.

There are many steps that need to be taken before we become our own "chartered.. congregation. We need to develop a constitution, bylaws, legal structure, organizational structure and much more. The plan is to become our own congregation somewhere between 12 and 18 months from now. Once Christ Lutheran Vail becomes its own congregation, then we will implement whatever positions called for in our constitution and bylaws. On "Charter Sunday.., all those who desire to become charter members of Christ Lutheran Vail will do so. If you desire to participate in the work to develop this structure, please contact me. It is anticipated that the bulk of the work will be done by a smaller group of people, but they will bring this information before the congregation at appropriate times. We are fortunate in that there are many new mission congregations in Arizona that are further along in the process than we are. We will use what they have learned from their experiences to develop the structure that is appropriate for our congregation.

The rain has now stopped. I have opened the windows and I can feel the cool, fresh breeze upon my body. Whenever it rains, we can remember of the gracious work Jesus does for us through Baptism.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am so excited to be working with you here at Christ Lutheran Vail.
