Vail Vision March 2, 2006

Grace and Peace,

Wednesday, March 1st, began the forty days before Easter. This time is called Lent, from the Old English, Lenten, meaning Spring. Christians use this time to reflect upon the life of Christ and His sacrifice for us. Many of you may give up something for Lent. This helps us reflect upon the suffering of Jesus. It was Jesus' suffering that won for us redemption from a life of sin.

Sunday we will begin a sermon series focusing on the last words of Christ. These are the "crosswords.. - the last words that Jesus spoke from the cross. On Sunday we will spend some time studying "Today you will be with me in Paradise... Come see how God's words of comfort to the criminal on the cross speak to us even today. We will have some materials for you to take home that will help you as we walk this Lenten journey together.

This Sunday we will celebrate the Lord's Supper for the first time at Christ Lutheran Vail. The Altar Guild will meet at church at 8:00 as a group to prepare for our first communion. All of the communionware has arrived for Sunday's service. We will provide brief instructions for communing at the beginning of the service.

The next service event will be the roadway cleanup on MaryAnn Cleveland Way. This will be held on Saturday, March 11th. We will meet at the east end of MaryAnn Cleveland Way at Colossal Cave Road at 8:00 AM. Bring water, gloves, hat, and sunscreen.

This year's VBS (Vail Bible School) is Jerusalem Marketplace. There was a HUGE response from Vail Pride Days and we have already had registration forms faxed in. To handle the anticipated crowd, we will need additional people. The event will last on March 20th through March 24th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Even if you cannot be there every day, we need people to help with the "specialty" booths - which are not every day. Why not let God richly bless your life this year and take some time to work with his little ones. Contact Jennifer Hook at 777-4401 or call the VBS hotline at 349-1195.

Christ Lutheran Vail is continuing our investigation into a Christian School. The Genesis project is well underway. The next big event will be a regional community survey. This will be conducted by phone. We need to survey approximately 300 people to ask them a set of questions about Christian Education in Vail. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, March 30th. We will all gather together at Fountain of Life and begin calling. We should easily be able to accomplish the survey that evening if we have enough people. More information will come in a later issue of the Vision.

That is it for now. Blessings on your week.
