Vail Vision April 20, 2006

He is Risen!

Talk about things rising, have you seen the price of gas lately? Yesterday, I paid $2.80 a gallon. In New York, it is expected to reach $4.00 a gallon! According to a report on the news last night, that's the adjusted-for-inflation price that people paid during the fuel crisis of the 1970s. Our economy is driven by fuel and when gas prices go up, it reaches into everyone's pocketbook. Some companies, like FedEx, charge a "gas surcharge.. for each delivery over their normal rates. But you and I have no-one to backcharge. When the price goes up, we simply fork over the money.

There is one commodity, however, where the price will never go up. One tangible good that remains at a constant low price. That's God's free grace through Jesus Christ. It's free and will always be free. Because the cost for this was so great that you and I couldn't pay it if we tried. So God sent His One and Only to pay the price for us. That's what we celebrate on Easter Sunday, Jesus' victory over the price of sin. And because of that free gift, you and I can live as redeemed people. It's like getting a prepaid unlimited gas card! Now that's victory. He is Risen, He is Risen indeed. Hallelujah!

Blessings on your week,

Vicar David Hook

This Sunday, April 23, we will celebrate the Lord's Supper. We shifted communion to the fourth Sunday in April because of Easter. But, since April has five Sundays, we will not have communion on April 30th. We will continue on our normal schedule on May 7th.

Also on Sunday, we will have an after-church study on extra-biblical evidence to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We have arranged with Cienega High School to be in the band room. The band room is behind the stage and towards the east. When the service is finished, we will still have about a 15 minute fellowship time. Then, at about 10:15, go down the hallway behind the red banners. That will lead to the band room. Glad Song will have their normal after-service practice on the stage. There will be several different programs for children in sixth grade or younger. The junior high youth are welcome to join us in the band room. The study will end at about 11:00 because I have a 12:00 appointment at Fountain of Life in Tucson.

Don't forget to purchase your tickets for the two Paul Maier seminars. Dr. Maier is one of the nation's leading authorities on Biblical Archaeology and History. He is a professor of Ancient History at Western Michigan University. He is teaching two seminars in May. "Christ or Caricature.. is a look at the extra-Biblical evidence of the life of Jesus. It will be held on May 20th at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The cost is $10 which includes lunch. On May 21, from 2:00 to 4:00, Dr. Maier will specifically address the Da Vinci Code in his presentation, "The Da Vinci Deception... The cost for this is also $10 and the price includes a copy of Dr. Maier's book, "The Da Vinci Code: Fact or Fiction?.. Tickets are available after church on Sunday and also on-line at www.fountainconcerts.com
