Vail Vision May 18, 2006

Summer is Here!

Can you believe that summer is upon us so quickly? This month marks our six-month anniversary for worship at Christ Lutheran Vail. If you can remember, our first worship service was November 6, 2005. At that time, we had no idea what God had planned for our congregation. But God knew. I continue to be amazed at how richly God has blessed our congregation over the last six months. Here are some highlights:

  • Jeff Rohlwing Concert
  • Awesome Christmas Eve Service
  • Peasall Sisters Concert
  • Vacation Bible School
  • Awesome Easter Worship
  • Various youth events
  • Special Sunday School for youth and adults
  • After-church brunches

We have also worked on the Genesis study to evaluate Christian education, worked with Church Development partners in search of land, and much, much more. I continue to be amazed at what God has done at Christ Lutheran Vail. I see His hand in everything we do. As we begin the long, dry summer, and many of us take vacations, we praise God that even in the summer, His love is ever-present.

To celebrate how God has richly blessed our congregation and to plan for the future, we will have an all-church congregational meeting on June 4th after worship. This will last for about an hour. I will update the congregation on all aspects of Christ Lutheran Vail. We will also have time for questions and discussion.

This weekend, Dr. Paul Maier will be speaking at Fountain of Life. His presentations are Saturday from 9:00 to 3:30 and Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00. I encourage each of you to attend. Sunday's event will be particularly interesting since "The Da Vinci Code Movie" is realeased on Friday. We will not have Sunday school this weekend.

As I mentioned on Sunday, Jeff and Jennifer Rowhling had a beautiful baby girl. Thea Beth Rohlwing. She is absolutely beautiful.

That is all for now. Blessings on your week.

David Hook

If you want more fun than you though possible, come to Cienega High School at 7:00 AM on Sunday mornings. You'll find a whole group of people who love to serve God by arranging furniture. It's a riot. With summer upon us, there will be fewer people to assist as our members take anticipated vacations. You are also encouraged to help out after the service to reset the room for lunch. Free used bubble gum for all!

Dr. Maier is one of the nation's leading authorities on Biblical Archaeology and History. He is a professor of Ancient History at Western Michigan University. He is teaching two seminars in May. "Christ or Caricature.. is a look at the extra-Biblical evidence of the life of Jesus. It will be held on May 20th at Fountain of Life Lutheran Church from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The cost is $10 which includes lunch. On May 21, from 2:00 to 4:00, Dr. Maier will specifically address the Da Vinci Code in his presentation, "The Da Vinci Deception... The cost for this is also $10 and the price includes a copy of Dr. Maier's book, "The Da Vinci Code: Fact or Fiction?.. Tickets will be available at the door.

Christ Lutheran Vail is partnering with Fountain of Life to do a servant event in Metairie Louisiana. The event is scheduled from Saturday, July 1st through Saturday, July 8th. Carpenters, construction people and general handyman-types are encouraged to join the team. Because of Lutheran Disaster Relief requirements, this event is limited to those who are 16 years or older. This is a great opportunity share God's love with a part of the country that still is trying to recover from the Hurricane Katrina disaster. Each participant will need to be self-funded. The cost will be $700 for the week. This cost includes airfare. If God is calling you to assist our neighbors in the gulf region, please contact either Joel Cmiel at or Jami Eggold at 495-5694.
