Vail Vision May 30, 2006

The end of the world?

What's up with all of these alligator attacks? The latest story is out of Coral Springs, Florida. Michael Rubin took his two dogs for a run. His golden retriever puppy ran ahead and then she started to cry. When Michael reached the puppy, her head was in an alligator's mouth. He started beating on the 7-foot alligator's head and freed the puppy. He rushed her to a nearby animal hospital and she will be fine.

Maybe the alligators are foreshadowing next Tuesday, June 6, 2006. When written as 6/6/6 it looks like the number in Revelation 13:18,

"This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666...

People are aware of this date. A woman in England is scheduled to have her child next Tuesday and she has asked the doctors to induce the child early! A remake of the movie "The Omen.. is being released by Hollywood on this date. By this time next week, my guess is the media will have spent a lot of time on this whole issue. Unfortunately, it will probably sound like, "See, another date has come and gone and the Christians still remain...

But we don't have to fear next Tuesday. First, Revelation speaks of number, not a date. In the Greek it reads "Six hundred sixty six.. or as the King James beautifully reads, "Six hundred three score and six...

Second, we have already been rescued! We were in the clutch of Satan's jaws but Jesus came and pounded on his head. And when the battle was over, He bore the wounds, not us.

May His peace be with you this week.

Vicar David Hook

This Sunday is the celebration of Pentecost, the day Jesus gave the Holy Spirit. On Sunday, Christ Lutheran Vail will be blessed with the music and words of Jeff Rohlwing. He will sing a mini-concert during the service. His latest CD, "Turn.. will be released on June 11th. You won't want to miss this time of praise.

God has richly blessed Christ Lutheran Vail over the last year. This Sunday, directly after the service, Vicar David will deliver a short presentation. The presentation will highlight some of the blessings that God has showered over the last year and present a status report on all of the various aspects of our mission. A Nursery will be provided. Jennifer Hook will lead a children's activity for the duration of the meeting.

Starting Sunday, June 4th, there will be a nursery provided during worship. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Jennifer Hook at

If you want more fun than you though possible, come to Cienega High School at 7:00 AM on Sunday mornings. You'll find a whole group of people who love to serve God by arranging furniture. It's a riot. With summer upon us, there will be fewer people to assist as our members take anticipated vacations. You are also encouraged to help out after the service to reset the room for lunch. Free used bubble gum for all!

One of the young ladies or our congregation, Kyrie Hook, will be traveling to El Paso for a servant event. You can help bring the message of the Gospel to El Paso. The group will build a home, church, or provide community cleanup. She will have a table in the back of Church on Sunday.
