Vail Vision August 9, 2006

Greetings in Jesus!

God is so good. Last week, my wife and children left for St. Louis. When they were driving along Interstate 40 between Gallup and Grants New Mexico, the car broke down. They were towed into Gallup Saturday evening. On Sunday, my children attended the local Lutheran Church. There, they connected with a wonderful family who offered their home until I could get to Gallup and take them to St. Louis. The Beverlins had four dogs, three cats, two bunnies and a Nintendo 64. Needless to say, my kids didn't want to leave!

Now everyone I have talked to (with the exception of the ever-wise Randy Cochran) has said that Gallup would be the worst place in the world to break down. And up until last week, I would have agreed with you. But these people were generous and gracious hosts. The weather was spectacular - cool and overcast. As we were leaving, my whole family commented on what a beautiful place Gallup is.

That's what God does. He takes a potentially horrible situation and turns it into paradise. That's what we've been studying in Ecclesiastes. God takes our horrible situation of life "Under the Sun.. and through Jesus, life becomes paradise. Life has meaning and purpose and we can enjoy this life each day, no matter what trouble lies ahead.

May His grace abound with you this week.

Thanks from the vicar

My family and I were overwhelmed by your support at the going-away party at the Raine's house. The food, fun, fellowship and swimming were great. Thanks for a warm and generous time together. My family already misses you.

Sunday School Hour

On Sunday, August 6th, Christ Lutheran Vail began our new format for Sunday mornings. The format is:

1st Sunday of the Month - Sunday School
2nd Sunday of the Month “ Brunch
3rd Sunday of the Month “ Sunday School
4th Sunday of the Month “ Family Activity
5th Sunday of the Month “ Special Presentations for Christ Lutheran Vail

We are still looking for someone to coordinate the 4th Sunday of the month activities. If you are interested, please let me know. Many activities have been suggested, so you won't be short on ideas. However, someone is needed to coordinate these events and obtain supplies if needed.

Sunday Morning Nursery

Tara Clark is in charge of the Nursery for Sunday morning. She will be there on Sunday morning, but we need volunteers to assist in the nursery. If you would like to help, please sign up with Tara. Also, additional items are needed to stock the nursery. See the list in the back of the church on Sunday mornings.

Please join the ladies of the Christ Lutheran Vail Chapter of LWiML on Saturday, Aug. 19 for a breakfast meeting. We will begin at 9:00am at the home of Lola Unger (8628 E. Esselmont Dr.) in Rita Ranch. Breakfast will be provided. Please call Lola at 664-0310 for directions and to RSVP. We hope to see you there!
