Vail Vision December 14, 2006

A bit of Christmas humor.

I heard recently that there are four stages in life: In the first stage you believe in Santa. In the second stage you don't believe in Santa. In the third stage you play Santa. In the final stage you look like Santa.

When my son, John, was little, he would come to choir practice with Jennifer and me. One year, the choir was singing "venite adoremus... I was driving one day and I heard him singing the song. I was very impressed that my young son had picked up on this song simply by hearing the choir sing it. But when I listened carefully, he was singing, "at least I got a dead moose... To this day, I still laugh thinking about it. Perhaps some day, I will send him a dead moose.

Why would anyone want a hippopotamus for Christmas??

Jennifer teaches a Mother's Day Out program here in town. One young girl, Kaitlyn, wrote a letter to Santa Clause. The next day, the note was gone. "Santa came and took it.. said her mother. This upset Kaitlyn very much. She was angry that Santa would come in and take stuff from her home. She went over to the nativity scene and grabbed baby Jesus in one hand and Mary in the other. She has yet to let them go.

As we prepare our hearts and homes for Jesus, may the joy of this season fill you with laughter too.

Blessings,

David Hook

A BIG THANK YOU
God certainly "Made a WAY in a Manger.. at Christ Lutheran Vail's 1st Annual Christmas Tea on December 1st; ; making a way for over 100 ladies to fellowship, enjoy special desserts and reflect on the Christmas story through a program of readings and songs. A special thank you to all the ladies who so graciously hosted and decorated the tables and to all the ladies who took time out of their busy schedules to participate in this special evening. I pray it served as a great beginning as you continue to celebrate our Saviors birth. - Polly

Christ Lutheran Vail's Children's Christmas Program will be held on Christmas Eve morning at 9AM. The kids have been working hard, and it is going to be an exceptional program. After the program we will celebrate a birthday party for Jesus with cake and gift bags for the children!!

LWiM
LWiM (LWML) of Christ Lutheran Vail has By Laws which were approved by our members at the general meeting on Dec 9. They will be submitted for approval by the Society. Our name is Women in Mission of Christ Lutheran Vail. At that same meeting members voted on our Mission Projects. We are so blessed to be able to share God's gifts with His people. A report with details of disbursements of the proceeds from WIM-LWML projects will be available in Jan 2007. Our speakers, Pastor and Amy Michaelson, shared their story of the Servant Event in Metairie, LA. Donations of $75.00 were made for future FOL Servant Events in New Orleans.

GIFTS FROM THE HEART
The basket for Gifts from the Heart for the Rev Don Rosentreter will be on the WiM-LWML table near the entrance. Remember checks should be made out to PSWD-LWML with a memo for Rev Rosentreter. These donations are to help this missionary pay for medical tests and treatments (not covered by insurance) for several serious illnesses contracted while serving in Estonia.

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDY COMING IN 2007
In January Erin Hall's Women's Bible Study will begin. More news about time and day will be coming soon.

LWiM GOLF AND TEE SHIRTS
In February Women in Mission of CLV will be taking orders for Tee shirts and or Golf shirts. There are plans for having Family Day be a CLV Day when everyone wears their CLV tee shirt or golf shirt. Our goal is to make our church known in the Vail community. We are hoping that the Men's Golf Group would also wear their CLV shirt when they golf.

MITE BOX
The Mite Box will be placed near the Breakfast Tables on the second Sunday each month. Everyone is invited to drop their extra change in the Mite Box on that day. Mites are used to help missions around the world. Our church was the recipient of a grant of $9878.00 from the Pacific South West District of Lutheran Women in Mission.
