Reading Scripture...

Today in the Old Testament and Gospel readings we observe God's word being read aloud. God's word is powerful stuff. When it is read, God's presence is there. It fills us and changes us.

In baptism, it isn't just the water alone that does anything, but it is the word of God along with the water that brings life. The same happens in the Lord's Supper. It is Jesus' words telling us, "this cup is the new covenant in my blood shed for you for the remission of sins...

When you talk with friends at work or at play and you tell them about Jesus' love and forgiveness it isn't just simple words but it is life-changing Spirit-filled words.

And when Scripture is read aloud in church, the Holy Spirit uses those words to fill us and renew us.

May we always be fed and renewed by God's word.
