American Idols

The search is on for the next "American Idol... For years I have refrained from watching this show, but it now appears that my children are hooked. So last week I watched one episode with them.

The singers were terrible! Simon, the host, said exactly what I was thinking. Some of the performers were almost too painful to watch! And this Simon isn't very nice at all. He is almost brutal in his comments. Many contestants are emotionally overwrought when they find out that they aren't going to be the next "idol...

Is it wrong to tell a bad performer that their bad? Isn't this something that they should have learned somewhere along the way? Is it wrong to tell someone the truth? Probably not. But Simon could show a bit more compassion.

But what I found highly entertaining about this show wasn't the performers. It was watching their abrupt awakening into the real world. It is emotional voyeurism at its worst. I think it's a part of our fallen human nature that we like to see others suffer. I think we are glad we aren't in their shoes.

Yet in a way we are in their shoes. To God we must look just like these contestants on American Idol. We think we're great, but we're not. But because of Jesus, we aren't kicked off the stage. This never causes us to suffer because Christ took that suffering upon Himself.

What are we?
We are "Teams " of women who "Serve the Lord with Gladness" Ps 100:2

Our Mission is to assist each woman of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in affirming her relationship with the Triune God so that she is enabled to use her gifts in ministry among the people of the world.

WiM CLV is not the "usual" LWML. We are made up of teams. The Coordinating Team meets monthly, but other teams meet only when they are working on a special project. For example: Bylaws was one short time team; "Let's Eat Out Dinners" was an activity from Oct.13 through Nov 12 (this was our big money maker); 11 week Women's Bible Study; Cancer Survivors Support Group is an ongoing project for the community. There are other teams: Stampers, Church Banners, Baptism Banners, Christmas Tea, Golf/Tee Shirt Sale, Flea Market Sales in October, Baby Showers and any other project a member suggests. We are also privileged to be part of the Ordination and Installation Service of our FIRST Pastor of Christ Lutheran Vail Church.

We are inviting all the women of Christ Lutheran Vail to check us out and join us. Sign up sheets are at the WiM CLV table near the entry door on Sunday mornings or call Kae 574-8536 for information.

Our next Coordinating Team meeting is Feb. 6 at 7 P.M (These last 60-90 minutes.)

Attention Ladies!!! You are invited to join a Christ Lutheran Vail women's Bible study!

We meet weekly to study the Becoming a Woman of... series by Cynthia Heald. All adult women and mature older (16 and up) teen girls in the church are invited! Bring your friends, too! Please call Erin Hall with any questions you may have at 574-7469.
