Vail Vision February 18, 2007

A Brief History

This congregation started as a vision by Pastor Michaelson and members of Fountain of Life. Pastor Michaelson said, "There's a big fishing hole out there (referring to the area in Vail) and we need to be fishing... It was October 31, 2004, that a group of people met on the back porch of the Phillips' house to dream about this day. Through prayer they asked for guidance from the Holy Spirit to lead them. Joel Cmiel, the Deacon of Outreach from Fountain of Life, played a big role in the planning, organizing and publicizing for the new venture.

The first step was to secure a facility. The Vail School District said that there was space available in the Cienega High School Cafetorium. The Pacific Southwest District provided funds to rent the space and the group began a Sunday evening Bible Study and dinner hour. The Bible Study was led by Pastor Craig Michaelson and Pastor Roland Kauth. Randy Cochran, Lisa Mappes and Cathy Cmiel led the evening with praise songs.

Fountain of Life continued to guide and lead during this time. Pastor Michaelson worked with Jerry Kosberg and the Pacific Southwest District to call a vicar from Concordia Seminary to assist at Christ Lutheran Vail. In July, 2005, Vicar David Hook arrived with his family.

Worship began in the Cienega High School Cafetorium on November 6, 2005. Randy Cochran assembled the praise band, Glad Song, and they have been leading worship since that day.

Throughout this beginning, there have been many exciting events that have occurred including:

Jeff Rohlwing Concert
Peasall Sisters Concert
Vail Vacation Bible School
Vail Pride Days
Service Events
Sunday School, 1st & 3rd Sundays
Second Sunday Breakfasts
LWiM (Lutheran Women In Mission)

Today marks a milestone for Christ Lutheran Vail. Today is Charter Sunday. We celebrate what God has done and we look forward with eager anticipation for what He will continue to do.

Give thanks to the LORD for He is good and His mercy endures forever!
