A massive Quake

Last week a massive earthquake dramatically changed the geology of the Solomon Islands. Not only did the 8.0 magnitude quake unleash a tsunami into the South Pacific, it raised the island of Ranongga ten feet into the air. The coral reefs adjacent to the island were also dramatically lifted out of the water.

The quake also revealed a sunken vessel believed to be a remnant from the Second World War. The Solomon Islands saw some of the largest battles from the Pacific theater. A National Geographic documentary reported that residents of the island helped rescue John F. Kennedy and his crew of PT-109. They reported that Kennedy cut a rescue message into a coconut:

NAURO ISL
COMMANDER... NATIVE KNOWS POS'IT...
HE CAN PILOT... 11 ALIVE
NEED SMALL BOAT... KENNEDY

Through risk of capture, the coconut was carried through enemy waters and given to a nearby Allied base.

Interestingly, research into the demographics of the Solomons revealed that they are 96% Christian. That's incredible.

Aside from the Solomon tremor, last week also saw an anniversary of another quake that shook the world. Yet this quake wasn't a shift in seismic plates resulting in massive geologic changes. This quake occurred when one man was killed and placed in a grave. On the third day, He burst through the grave and broke the chains and bonds of death forever.

Jesus came to rescue mankind from sin, Satan and the power of death. But the rescue note wasn't inscribed on a coconut. It was inscribed with our Savior's blood. The rescue note said, "Father, forgive them...

And God the Father, maker of heaven and earth, maker of the Ranongga Island and the coral reefs did just that. He forgave all of us. Now that is a quake of massive proportions.

Blessings,
