They're here...

At about 8:00 PM on Monday night, they returned.   Mystery lights appeared in the sky!   The Phoenix police and local media were flooded with phone calls.   They lights appeared for about 15 minutes and then disappeared.   Pictures of the sighting were posted on the internet and shown on the local television stations.   The Air Force was contacted, but denied responsibility.   (...or at least they said they weren't responsible, but you all know about Roswell.)

They are Unidentified Flying Objects, UFOs.   They show up from time to time without any warning or explanation.   They join the ranks with crop circles, strange television interference and unexplained heat radiation.   They are "Close Encounters of the Second Kind.. “ proof of extraterrestrial life.

But does life exist on other planets?   Are there myriad worlds with life forms elsewhere in the universe?   Are we just one of hundreds, nay millions of other civilizations floating throughout the cosmos?   If God can create us, can't he also create others?

Perhaps somewhere in the universe there is a life form based on Silicon.   In 1891, the German astrophysicist Julius Scheiner first speculated on the suitability of silicon as a basis for life.   Life on hot planets would not be carbon-based, but be based on heat-tolerant silicon.   Yeah, that's it.   Alien Gumby's.

What about the Nephilim?   These are the giants described in scripture before the flood.   Are they proof that Aliens came once and may likely come again?   (Whenever the topic turns to Aliens, I am reminded of an episode of "The Twilight Zone...   In this episode, aliens came to earth with a handbook entitled, "How to Serve Mankind...   It turns out the handbook was really a cookbook!   If there are Aliens, let's pray they're not hungry!)

Good questions.   But hey, give me a break, I'm just a pastor.   All I know is what God has revealed to us.   Scripture clearly states that God created us and then sent His one and only begotten Son, Jesus, to live among us and to redeem us.   There really isn't anything said in scripture about life on other planets.   If life exists, my guess is they need Jesus too!   When Jesus said, "Go and make disciples of all nations.. that probably also applies to Aliens.

As to the Alien sighting on Monday, it turns out it was a hoax.   The news reported on Thursday that a man used fishing line to attach road flares to helium-filled balloons.   A neighbor saw the man light the flares and launch the balloons a minute apart from his back yard.   And thus the Alien-conspiracy-theorists sigh.   Oh well, there's always crop circles.

Blessings,
Pastor David Hook
