Resolution Revolution

The time management company Franklin Covey has once again released their results from their annual New Year's resolutions survey. This year they polled 527 customers. In comparison with last year's survey, the top four resolutions remained the same. However, there were some changes. Here's this year's and last year's list:

 

TOP 10 RESOLUTIONS FOR 2009

1. Get out of debt or save money

2. Lose weight

3. Develop a healthy habit

4. Get organized

5. Spend more time with family/friends

6. Develop a new skill or talent

7. Work less, play more

8. Other

9. Break an unhealthy habit

10. Change employment

 

TOP 10 RESOLUTIONS FOR 2008

1. Get out of debt or save money

2. Lose weight

3. Develop a healthy habit

4. Get organized

5. Develop a new skill or talent

6. Spend more time with family/friends

7. Other

8. Work less, play more

9. Break an unhealthy habit

10. Change employment

 

It's interesting how the list is fairly stable. I am happy to see "Spend time with family and friends" increased on the list. I was surprised to see"work less" move up in the list with our weak economy. But maybe people realize that they may be forced into working less. Who knows? Who gets any guidance from these lists anyway? Besides me, of course.

 

But I always have believed that we should use the New Year to take stock of our lives. If you are inclined to lists, here's my suggestion for things to do in 2009.

 

TOP 10 CHRISTIAN RESOLUTIONS FOR 2009

1. Spend time in God's word.

2. Pray.

3. Say "I love you".

4. Heal a broken relationship.

5. Give to those in need.

6. Share your faith.

7. Spend more time with family

8. Join the choir.

9. Come get a free pigeon from Pastor Hook's house.

10. Enjoy every day God grants you.

 

I am excited about what 2009 will bring. I pray that God will shower you with His love this new year.
