Our History

Christ Lutheran Vail began as a mission plant of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in 2004 when a group of like-minded and mission-oriented Christians gathered in the Vail area to ask for God's guidance in starting a new congregation.  As this group gathered for Bible Study and prayer they were led to make their presence known in the community by conducting a Bible Study at Cienega High School.

Pastor David Hook, at that time a second-year seminary student at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, was called to lead the congregation as part of his third-year internship.  During this internship, Christ Lutheran Vail began Sunday morning worship at Cienega High School.  The first worship service was held on November 5th, 2005. When Pastor Hook earned a Master of Divinity degree he was ordained and installed as the first Pastor of the congregation on June 10th, 2007.

In the summer of 2008, the church undertook a planning effort to evaluate the ministry, core values, and strategic objectives.  This resulted in a planning document for the future, Vision2013.

At the beginning of 2010, the congregation undertook its first financial spiritual journey to raise money for a future site.  The process resulted in a blessing large enough to purchase property.  In 2010 Christ Lutheran Vail purchased 37.6 acres of land along Colossal Cave Road where the Ministry Center is now located.
