Day 1 - May 7, 2012

What did the momma buffalo say to her baby boy as he left for school one day?
Bye-son!

These daily emails may take many directions. They might offer a reflection on the Daily Devotion in the "Why Pray" book. Or, they might offer a prayer need that is heavy on my heart with the hope that you will join me in that prayer. I might also reflect on some aspect of our Strategic Plan. Maybe it will accomplish all three. In either case, I hope that it is not too cumbersome for you. I may not have time to really craft these emails. I shared with the office staff that on some days, I might share the simple prayer, "God, help me get through the day!"

My wife, Jennifer, has a saying that she uses all the time. She says life is about Relationships, Relationships, Relationships. I was thinking about that when I read today's devotion. Jennifer is right. First, life is about the relationship that the Triune God has within Himself. Then it's about the relationship each of us has with God. Finally, it's about our relationships with each other. When I look at the vision, strategy and mission of Christ Lutheran Vail - it really all boils down to relationships. The relationship we have with God which nurishes our relationship with each other and motivates us to create relationships with God's family outside these walls. Basically, we are about the business of expanding God's family to the whole world. And this isn't so that we can pat ourselves on the back and say, "Look at what a great job we're doing." No, it's to extend The Real Relationship to God's creation.

Any relationship requires time to build it. John DeVries is correct about prayer. It's really about spending time with God. My prayer for today is that you are able to carve out the time to do that.

Jesus loves you and so do I.
