Day 31 - June 6, 2012

Day 31 - June 6, 2012

Our son loves to dress up and create his own adventure stories. He used to live in his Spiderman costume. Now he settles for his "investigator" fedora, a vest and a necktie. Other children dress up as knights, princesses, and firemen. How many of us grownups would secretly love to dress up and play the part of someone valiant, someone beautiful? Dragon slaying, anyone?

We often long to be and to do something more as we go about the mundane tasks of everyday life. But listen. Ephesians 1:3 says, "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ." So somehow, while we are living our lives down here, we are living in the blessings of God in the "heavenly places." C.S. Lewis describes us as kings and queens who stand over a table looking down at small images of ourselves on earth. We can't see our own God-given valor, strength or beauty, we can only see the small dim version of ourselves that stares back at us from the mirror. We cannot see who we really are.

The reality is that we are transformed and given power and authority by our Father. Satan is trying to convince God's royal people that faith-filled prayer is just playing dress up. Satan only wants us to see what we were before we were redeemed. God has robed us with finery and spiritual gifts we cannot imagine. He wants us to live in that reality even if we can't see it. Turns out that it's the dress up clothes that are the real deal.

Thanks be to God!
