Christ Lutheran Vail began as a mission plant of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church in 2004 when a group of like-minded and mission-oriented Christians gathered in the Vail area to ask for God's guidance in starting a new congregation. As this group gathered for Bible Study and prayer they were led to make their presence known in the community by continuing the Bible Study at Cienega High School.
At the same time, God was forming our first Pastor. Pastor David Hook was a second-year seminary student at Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri. When the Bible Study group asked the seminary for someone to lead the congregation, they sent Pastor Hook as part of his third-year internship. During this internship, Christ Lutheran Vail begain Sunday morning worship at Cienega High School. Our first worship service was held on November 5th, 2005.
Since he had not completed his seminary training, Pastor Hook was required to complete his Master of Divinity to become ordained. While Pastor Hook was finishing his fourth year, the strong leadership of Christ Lutheran Vail worked on developing a constitution, becoming a corporation, becoming eligible for non-profit status and setting everything in place to call a pastor. Pastor Hook was installed as the first pastor on June 7th, 2007.
In 2008, the congregation undertook a comprehensive strategic planning process to discover who we are and what we are about. This process resulted in five core values. We believe these core values describe who we are as a congregation:
Once we realized who we were, we set forward a path to seek God's guidance for the unique role that we play in His Kingdom. This process resulted in five strategic planning groups.
These processes are currently underway.
More information about who we are can be found by reading our weekly newsletter from those first years, our Vail Vision.
